Massage Envy

/rant on

I signed up with these folks over a year ago and everything went just fine. Then I tried to cancel and the nightmare began . . .

I originally signed up in Blaine MN. My twelve months were up and due to economics I decided to cancel. I told the woman with my last appointment that I wished to cancel. She said she would take care of it. Imagine my surprise when I saw they had taken yet another payment out of my account. Yikes! I called them up and told them I had cancelled and I wanted my money back. well they had no record of my cancellation, but she would see that it was taken care of. No refund however.

Enter problems with my credit card account being compromised. I got a new card with a new number. Almost 4 weeks to the day I get a call from these yahoos saying that my auto payment had been declined. I explained to them yet again that I had cancelled and they wouldn't be getting further funds from me. She apologized and said she would take care of it right away!

A month passed and I still had two prepaid massages coming from them. I actually found a Massage Envy near my house at Lake Calhoun Shopping Center in south Minneapolis. They said they would honor my prepaids. Very nice place! After talking with them they said I could go month to month if I wanted and stay with them. What a shocker to discover that my account had not been cancelled, but had been suspended for non-payment. I thought about it and decided to give it a try. They then wanted a credit card. I had been working on a cash only basis for some time now and really enjoyed it. I told them I didn't have a credit card, but would pay cash. After some arguing they agreed.

So life went on and during this time I decided to treat myself to a 90 minute massage, I got there 10 minutes early and was taken in 10 minutes late at 7:10. My massage was over at 8:20. Tell me please how a 1 hour 10 minute massage is a 1 hour 30 minute massage?? And they expected me to pay for it? Well after some arguing I was charged for the extra 10 minutes and paid for my month in advance.

Things went along nicely for a time, but then I did need to cancel my membership. I called them up and they asked that I stop in and fill out a form for my cancellation. I asked if they could mail it to me as my schedule was really busy and I didn't get into that part of town often. They didn't mail the forms and I would need to stop in and sign it. I asked if they could fax it. They don't fax, but I could stop in.

After going back and forth with their desk staff I found someone new who DID fax me the form. I signed it and faxed it back. The next day I received a voicemail from the manager indicating that the cancellation went through and I would have 30 days to use my last prepaid massage.

So that brings me to today, I called to make an appointment and they said that I owed them money before I could use my prepaid. What??? I have one prepaid, I cancelled on May 25th. The cancellation went into effect on May 26th. But until I make a payment that was due on May 30th my account was not up to date and I couldn't use my prepaid, What???

Okay, all I'm saying to the world out there, be really really careful of this outfit. I know times are tough, but ripping off your customers is not the way to make up the slack.
