The first time I met John was looking at my friend Cindi's eys as she talked about him. There was a life within that hadn't been there in a long time. It shone out and surrounded her. This was a woman in love. I knew then that John was a special man.
I was honored to be asked to be the maid of honor at their wedding. It was a small ceremony with close friends and family in attendance. As they exchanged their vows tears came into both of their eyes. My best friend had found her lifemate, and John had found his. His tears as he spoke his vows told me that she was in the best of hands - he would care for her for the rest of eternity.
One of my fondest memories of John was being invited their home for dinner. The garage door rolled up, and then he bounding in through the door to seranade his beloved on bended knee. She laughed with joy and he returned the same. Their happiness was contagious to anyone that came in contact with them.
In the course of their lives they adopted a small miniature dachshound named Buttons. To see John and his Buttons together was halarious. Here was this giant of a man with this small tiny dog. Buttons knew that John was wrapped around his little paw.
I never heard John utter a harsh word or speak ill of anyone. He treated everyone he encounted as if they were a gift from the divine, to be cherished. That was a gift that he passed on to everyone he encountered.
Thank you John, for allowing me to know you. I wish it had been more. Rest well, and until we meet in Summerland - please - laugh, love, and enjoy your new life. I'll miss you, and I know I'm not the only one.
Always remembered, forever missed.
